Protector Filtered Glove Boxes
Protector Filtered Glove Boxes deliver ventilated protection for applications involving extremely hazardous particulates, including nanoparticle manipulation, toxic powder weighing, pharmaceutical research, and biochemistry. These units are designed to contain microorganisms, low-level radiochemicals, chemical carcinogens, and asbestos. By reversing the air pressure from negative to positive, these boxes support cleanroom applications requiring ISO Class 3 conditions.
Construction and Design
Each unit undergoes rigorous factory leak testing using mass spectrometry while pressurized with helium at 5 inches of water gauge. No detectable leaks exceed 1 x 10-6 ml/sec, ensuring superior containment. The powder-coated steel exterior provides corrosion resistance, while the interior is available with either one-piece molded fiberglass liners or type 304 stainless steel liners, both offering smooth, durable surfaces that simplify cleaning.
The large laminated safety glass viewing window measures 36" wide x 27.7" high and is removable for placement of large equipment. A powder-coated steel frame with one-piece neoprene gasket creates a tight seal. Space-saving inner and outer transfer chamber doors pivot upward, are counterbalanced, and feature quick latches for easy operation.
Filtration Technology
Fiberglass-lined models feature inlet and outlet HEPA filters that are 99.99% efficient on 0.3 micron particulates, rated for 70 CFM at less than 0.90" static pressure. Stainless steel-lined models feature inlet and outlet ULPA filters that are 99.999% efficient on 0.12 micron particulates, rated for 70 CFM at less than 1.00" static pressure. Both configurations include a True Bag-In/Bag-Out Filter Disposal System for safe filter removal and replacement.
Containment Performance
- Particulate containment below 20 nanograms per cubic meter confirmed by SafeBridge Consultants, Incorporated
- Airborne particulate cleanliness measured per ISO 14644-1 test method exceeds ISO Class 4 and achieves ISO Class 3 conditions
- Fast cleanup: 0.05 ppm average tracer gas levels or less after five-minute dilution, surpassing ASHRAE 110 standards
- Low vibration: displacement less than 0.38 x 10-5 inches at work surface center
- Analytical balance stability to five decimal places confirmed during testing
Airflow and Control
The built-in blower with speed control provides airflow from 15 to 85 CFM depending on voltage and frequency. The blower pulls room air through the inlet filter and discharges filtered air back into the laboratory through the top of the box under negative pressure operation, ensuring all internally-contaminated air passes through the exhaust filter.
An LCD display provides real-time monitoring and adjustable alarm levels for volume dilution rates in cubic feet per minute (CFM), air changes per minute (ACM), and main chamber static pressure in inches of water. An audible/visual alarm alerts when airflow or pressure falls below set limits.
