Purair FUMEBOX Ductless Enclosures (60H, 60V, 60H-XL)
Air Science Purair FUMEBOX ductless enclosures provide effective protection for users working with chemicals, vapors, or powders during low-volume chemical manipulations. These portable units effectively contain low concentrations of noxious fumes, vapors, or powders without requiring ductwork or external venting.
Available Models
Three standard configurations are offered in either metal or polypropylene construction:
- AP60H: Low-profile horizontal design
- AP60V: Vertical design
- AP60H-XL: Extra-large horizontal design
Applications
- Soldering
- Histology
- Cover Slipping
- Staining
- Pathology
- Graphic Arts and Sign Shops
- Art Conservation
- Electronics Assembly
- Particulate Control
- Manufacturing Processes
- Air Purification
Construction and Design
The FUMEBOX features a chemical resistant epoxy coated steel frame for mechanical strength. The cabinet is white with blue trim, while side and back panels are clear, providing 360-degree visibility for ambient illumination and unobstructed viewing. Available in 120V, 60Hz and 230V, 50Hz models.
Key Components
- High quality rocker On/Off switch for unit power control
- Chemical resistant epoxy coated steel support frame
- Electrostatic pre-filter accessible from inside the chamber, 91% effective down to 1-3 microns
- Enclosed filtration chamber accommodating carbon and/or HEPA/ULPA filters
- Clear back and side panels for visibility
- Clear viewing enclosure prevents chemical splash
Ductless Filtration Technology
Advanced carbon filtration technology offers a safe, high-performance alternative to conventional ducted fume hoods. The system isolates and traps chemical vapors to prevent environmental release while returning filtered air to the room.
Advantages
- Self-contained design requires no venting to the outside
- Many units are portable and may be moved with minimal downtime and without filter changes
- No demands on facility HVAC capacity for make-up air
- Eliminates facility ductwork, HVAC, and construction costs
- Compact size for shallow countertops or counters with overhanging wall cabinets
- Modular design permits multiple configurations
- Straightforward set-up, operation, and filter maintenance

Multiplex Filtration System
The exclusive Multiplex Filtration System consists of a pre-filter, main activated carbon or HEPA/ULPA filter, and safety activated carbon or HEPA/ULPA filter. This system permits customized combinations of filter media and configurations for chemical and physical adsorption specific to each application.

P - Electrostatic Pre-Filter: Protects main filters from aerosols, mists, dust, and particulates.
C - Activated Carbon Main Filter: Single filter configuration based on enhanced, activated carbon particle formulations from specially selected, naturally occurring raw material superior to wood or other organic sources.
H - HEPA/ULPA Filter: Uses micro-glass fiber media designed to capture fine particles and biologicals. HEPA filter efficiency is 99.97% at 0.3 microns; ULPA filter efficiency is 99.999% at 0.12 microns.
Available Filter Formulas
| Formula |
Description |
| GP Plus! |
Most widely used filter in the range, primarily for solvent, organic and alcohol removal. |
| ACI Plus!/SUL |
Designed to neutralize volatile inorganic acid vapors. |
| ACR |
Iodine and methyl iodide vapors; frequently used for iodination reactions with lower level radioactive iodine. |
| ACM |
Mercury vapor. |
| AMM |
Removes vapors from dilute ammonia solutions and low molecular weight amines. |
| FOR |
Designed to oxidize formaldehyde and glutaraldehyde fumes; widely used in hospital pathology laboratories. |
| HEPA/ULPA |
Powders and particulates. |
Airflow and Filtration Process
The FUMEBOX maintains a constant face velocity of 100 fpm in compliance with USA and international standards for safety and performance. Contaminated air is pulled through the Multiplex filtration system and clean air is returned to the room. Main filters are easy to replace and install. The filter clamps tightly against the filter gasket to prevent filter bypass and maintain filter integrity. The pre-filter may be replaced while the unit is in operation.
