The Purair LF Series Horizontal Laminar Flow (HLF) cabinets deliver particle-free environments for applications requiring sterile work zones without operator protection. These horizontal flow units feature Air Science Multiplex ULPA Filtration technology, providing ISO Class 4 air cleanliness for sensitive equipment and processes.

Horizontal Flow Design

In horizontal flow cabinets, airflow does not directly impinge on the work surface but rather is smoothly drawn across it, creating less turbulence. The purified air travels across the work zone in a horizontal, unidirectional stream and exits across the entire open cabinet front. This configuration is ideal for applications where smooth, non-disruptive airflow is preferred.

Horizontal flow cabinets maintain a face velocity of 0.35-0.45 m/s (80-100 fpm), measured 6"/150 mm from the filter, in compliance with USA and international standards for safety and performance. The ULPA filters are easy to replace with common tools.

Airflow Process

• Room air enters from the top through a disposable pre-filter that traps larger particles and extends filter life
• Air is forced evenly across the ULPA filter in a stream of clean, uniform air within the work zone
• The nominal filter face velocity of 0.4 m/s (80 fpm) ensures sufficient air changes to maintain work zone cleanliness
• Purified air travels horizontally across the work zone and exits through the open cabinet front

Construction and Quality

Standard models feature a powder coated interior with stainless steel work surface and transparent tempered glass side windows that allow ambient light into the chamber. The side windows provide users with three points of visibility for an unobstructed view of contents. All models include stainless steel work surfaces with no spill retention. Stainless steel interior models (-SS) are available for enhanced durability and chemical resistance.

The white epoxy coated steel frame provides long-lasting durability. All cabinet components are cleanroom compatible. External rotor blowers are permanently lubricated with low noise and vibration levels, reducing operating costs through energy efficient design.

Filtration Technology

Air Science Multiplex ULPA Filtration provides high performance protection. All models use ULPA filters with 99.999% efficiency at particle sizes between 0.1 to 0.3 μm. The disposable polyester fiber pre-filter provides 85% arrestance. The main filter gasket evenly seals the filter face to prevent bypass air leakage using pour-in-place silicone gasket technology that outperforms traditional stick-on dove-tail gasketing.

Spring loaded, adjustable tension clamping adjusts for gasket aging, maintaining seal integrity throughout the filter's service life.

Convenient Operation and Monitoring

The standard control panel features On/Off switches for blower and lighting, GFCI outlets (5A maximum), and a Minihelic ULPA pressure gauge to measure filter performance. The UV control panel includes the same features with the addition of a UV lamp key. Compact LED cabinet lighting is located away from the laminar flow area.

The ergonomically angled front improves reach and operator comfort during extended use. A recessed fan speed control with solid state circuitry and RFI filter provides precise airflow adjustment.

Sterile Compounding Compliance

When used according to best practices, the Purair LF Series cabinet encourages compliance with criteria set forth by USP 797 for sterile preparation in pharmaceutical compounding of nonhazardous agents. These include injectables, IV admixtures, pastes and ointments, and irrigating solutions which are protected by filtered air blown over the work surface in a laminar flow.

Installation and Reliability

Purair Laminar Flow cabinets are shipped fully assembled. No installation is required; simply plug them in and use them. Each cabinet is factory tested for safety and performance in accordance with international standards. Products are designed for desktop use or installation on the optional mobile base stand.
