The Purair BIO biological safety cabinet delivers exceptional energy efficiency and reliable performance for life science applications. Featuring a single EC brushless DC motor design, these cabinets consume just 220–490 watts while providing HEPA-filtered protection for operators, products, and the environment. Available in four sizes, the Purair BIO offers NSF 49 and EN12469 certified containment suitable for biosafety levels 1, 2, and 3.
Model AS-AHA-133-CA-B
This 4-foot model features standard membrane-style controls, 115V AC 60Hz operation, and EN12469 certification. The cabinet provides 99.99% particulate filtration efficiency at 0.3 microns through dual HEPA filters while maintaining energy consumption at just 300 watts.
Energy Efficiency and Motor Design
The Purair BIO utilizes a single EC brushless DC motor that eliminates the complexity and expense of dual motor systems. This design ensures balanced airflow, simplified maintenance, and lower operational costs while converting over 80% of motor output power to kinetic energy. Containment and Airflow Performance
The cabinet maintains a 70% recirculation to 30% exhaust airflow ratio, with average inflow velocity of 100 fpm (0.51 m/s) and downflow velocity of 60 fpm (0.30 m/s). Negative pressure inside the cabinet during operation prevents contaminants from escaping the work area. The integrated HEPA filtration system delivers clean air in a gentle vertical laminar flow pattern while the exhaust HEPA filter traps biohazardous particles before air returns to the room.

Construction and Ergonomics
The cabinet features SUS#304 stainless steel construction with a heavy-gauge, one-piece liner and coved corners for durability. The stainless steel elbow/arm rest provides ergonomic forearm support to prevent grille blockages and improve posture. Key components including fluorescent lamps, motor capacitor, electrical harness, electronic ballast, and switch control are mounted outside the airstream for service without decontamination.
