This instrument is used to determine the number of airborne particles carrying viable organisms. The sampler draws air through a slit at a fixed flow rate. The particles contained in the air are impinged upon an agar surface below the slit. The agar is contained in a commercially available culture plate which is rotated by a synchronous drive motor. (Rate of rotation can be varied by interchanging the drive motors.) At conclusion of sampling the drive motor and gas supply shut off automatically. After sampling, the plate is incubated and the colonies are counted. Results are expressed as viable particles per unit of air and a time-concentration relationship may be determined.
