This Pharmacia Wallac 1232 Delfia plate fluorometer is an automatic, bench-top, time-resolved fluorometer intended for routine fluoroimmunoassay applications. It can measure one 96 well microtitration in less than 3 minutes with precise and reliable results. It is equipped with 2 microfloppy disk drives, and includes the FIA software that gives results with sequence number, patient number, counts, concentration and CV% as an output to an external matrix printer (not included). If needed, the Wallac 1232 Delfia plate fluorometer can be linked to a personal computer (MultiCalc data reduction and QC program are required and are not included). Sample measurement section consists of the xenon 1000 times per second flash-lamp pulsed excitation light source, optical system, PMT detector and electronics. The light beam is focused onto the sample with an optical assembly consisting of 3 quartz lenses and 2 filters. The first filter has a cut-off of 320nm to remove UV light which can give background when measuring Eu labels. If lanthanides, like Terbium, with shorter excitation wavelengths are used, this filter can be removed from the light path by a steppermotor. In the filterchanger there is a place reserved for an extra filter if needed. The main filter has a transmission range of 290 to 360nm. A photodiode records the intensity of each flash and the measured energy is integrated until it reaches the factory set level of excitation energy when it automatically turns off (enabling exact control of excitation energy for each sample and also automatically correct for loss of energy as the lamp ages). A 7nm aperture is placed above the sample to minimize the excitation of neighbouring samples. The excitation of the sample is from above and the generated fluorescence is measured through the bottom of the well.
