The Bio-Rad 543 gel dryer has a drying surface of 20 x 35cm. Lid mounted heater elements heat gels from the top. Vacuum (not included) is pulled from the bottom through the porous gel support, distributing the vacuum evenly so that gels dry without cracking. The transparent sealing gasket allows monitoring of gels throughout the drying cycle.
Precision controlled temperature regulation prevents gel cracking. The exclusive design incorporates the floating heating element in the lid to heat the gel from the top while the vacuum pulls liquid from the bottom. This design maximizes uniform heating and therefore speeds drying while eliminating gel cracking and band spreading.
3 pre-programmed drying cycles to provide optimum drying for all types of gels. Gradient gels require a gentle heating cycle to reduce thermal stress and prevent cracking. The gradient gel drying cycle slowly heats to a set temperature at 1C per minute. The sequencing gel drying cycle eliminates the need to preheat the dryer, speeding up drying times by rapidly heating to 90C and slowly equilibrating to the set temperature. The SDS-PAGE drying cycle is similar to conventional gel dryers. The dryer's heating element reaches a set temperature and holds that temperature for a preset time.
Quick seal track for instantaneous gasket seal: Simply apply vacuum and the quick seal track that runs around the drying surface produces immediate sealing of the gasket. This groove also insures an airtight seal throughout each drying cycle.
Superior temperature control: Microprocessor control maintains precise temperature control throughout the drying cycle by continuously monitoring and adjusting the temperature at the heating element surface. Any Temperature between 50C to 90C can be selected with the digital selection button.
When drying conditions have been set, the setting is retained in the memory. Simply push the start button to recall the setting for the next run.
The LED display of temperature and time gives exact readings of the dryer temperature and tells how much time is left in the cycle.
Filter paper (not included) is an excellent all-around support for drying stained gels. The special sequencing filter paper provides stronger adhesion of filter paper to the gel for lifting fragile sequencing gels from glass plates. The cellophane membranes provide a clear gel for transmission densitometry or presentations on overhead projectors.
Vacuum Pump requirement (not included): 20" to 23" Hg, 20 to 30 liters/min or more. A trap should be used to protect the pump.
