The Arizona Computrac TMX is a thermogravimetric measurement system designed for QC, QA & research studies. Similar to a karl fischer system using a moisture extractor unit or to a system using phosphorus pentoxide electrolytic salts but uses a dry chemistry & gravimetric analysis rather than the wet chemistry of karl fischer or coulometric regeneration of phosphorus pentoxide. Liquid or solid samples can be tested. Samples sizes can range from 100mg for high moisture samples to over 400g for ultra dry products such as plastic resins. The system consists of a heated thermal tube which heats the sample to a predetermined test temperature to drive off all volatiles. A dry carrier gas, either ambient air or nitrogen, carries the evolved volatiles from the thermal tube to a water collection cell. There, a sensitive electronic force balance measures the increasing weight of the collection cell as the water vapors are trapped. The weight of the water or the calculated percent concentration is displayed on an alpha numeric display panel, output to a serial printer or to a personal computer.
