This Soiltest mechanical bituminous mixer has a paddle formed to fit the bottom of the bowl and is rotated at a speed of 30RPM. It is also allowed to slide up and down. Spring steel fingers are fastened to the bowl lid and inserted into the mixture to aid in agitation. No appreciable amount of heat is given off by the mixer during operation. The temperature is maintained by an infra-red lamps that are automatically switched on when the bowls are placed into position. The lamps can be adjusted into any height desired. Normal position os 1/4" from the bottom of the bowls, which gives an operating temperature of approximately 210F. The lamps are screened to prevent breakage. Bowl capacity is 2L per bowl.
