The Buchler flash evaporators are used for performing evaporations of a routine nature as well as those required in special applications such as concentration of solutes, processing of biological materials including heat-labile substances, degassing of solutions, crystallization, drying of powders and granules, freeze drying, preparation of stationary phase materials for chromatography, mixing and/or impregnation of solid materials. The Buchler evaporator has a welded, stainless steel frame which supports the geared-down motor, 2 pans, 500-watt heater and 2 flasks (this unit is missing one pan and one flask). The condensing flask and evaporating flask are connected to a revolving shaft by a standard tapered joint. The evaporator flask revolves partly immersed in a heated water bath, while the condensing flask is simultaneously cooled by ice or a stream of cold water. During rotation, the solution in the evaporating flask will cover the flask walls with a very thin layer and rapid evaporation will start the instant the vacuum is connected to the system. At 50C and a vacuum of 15mm, the rate of evaporation of an aqueous solution will be approximately 1.2 litres per hour. Any efficient water aspirator can be used as a vacuum source. Priced as-is with a 6 month in shop warranty on the motor.
