Detect airborne microorganism contamination in a variety of environments such as hospitals, pharmaceutical, food, and cosmetics laboratories with the New Brunswick STA-121 air sampler. The STA-121 is an explosion proof sampler designed for use in an environment where electrically operated units are hazardous. The satellite model STA-121 is a single speed sampler without timer or vacuum valve. It's designed for use as an auxilliary with console model samplers and its operational cycle is controlled by the timer of the console unit. The New Brunswick sampler can also be connected to an external vacuum pump (sold separately) when required. The STA-121 is driven by a spring wound motor in place of the electric drive used in the standard STA units. When the Satellite is used with a console sampler, it is possible to monitor air from 2 different locations. Any contaminants are impacted on the agar surface and, after the plate is incubated, the colonies can be counted and identified. Principle of operation: a known volume of air is drawn by a vacuum through a slit orifice, since a pressure drop occurs across the orifice, the sampled air, with its entrained contaminants, is accelerated to a higher velocity. The minute contaminants, because of their heavier mass, are impacted onto the surface of the agar on the sampling plate. The air then continues its passage through the device into the flow meter, where the flow rate is measured. The air sample then enters the vacuum pump and is exhausted to the room. After incubation of the agar plate, colonies can be counted and evaluated.
